New book out: Land of the Rising Blockchain

April 10, 2018

I never planned to be a part-time author and still contend that I am not worthy of the title. However, after crafting Japan Bitcoin #1 last year, I realized that writing books makes me a better venture capitalist.

My new book, Land of the Rising Blockchain, explores the wide-ranging impacts of blockchain technology on industry in Japan. The topics covered are relevant to innovation ecosystems worldwide; however, I believe that Japan is the most interesting place to start.

Developed societies across the globe are increasingly facing challenges arising from the trends of corporate stagnation, aging populations, talent mismatch, urbanization, automation, and decentralization. We believe that these challenges will affect almost all developed countries but are manifesting themselves most acutely in Japan first. Yet challenges create opportunities. Given its status on the front lines, Japan, we imagine, can be an early market in which the ensuing innovations take shape. Heartfelt thanks to my co-author and collaborator on this project: Annie Chen. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Just as in my first book, profits from the sale of Land of the Rising Blockchain are directed to Japan’s Tohoku region, still rebuilding from the Great East Japan Earthquake. This book is now available on Amazon here.
